Complex WordPress based websites are like ticking bombs
This is my quick take on building complex websites based on WordPress (WP) platform.
While WordPress is an amazing CMS it can be a source of a nightmare. Since somewhat complex modifications require good amount of WP plugins (paid and free) which makes the website a puzzle of codes that potentially do (or will do at some point) conflict with each other or with WP engine due to an update or piece of depreciated code.
This said, even if the WP site was build with great care and was working fine at some time, it may (will) break without any notice resulting in potential countless investigative hours before the final fix is identified and applied. This brake-find-fix-brake is virtually an endless loop (web developer’s nightmare and potentially lost profits for the site owner).
Complex WordPress based websites are like ticking bombs. It’s just a matter of time. Imagine living on a seismically active land and calling the next earthquake an unexpected one.
